New Delta Cases Hit Phnom Penh

Phnom Penh: The Ministry of Health’s latest Covid-19 figures do not include the latest case of the Delta variant detected in the capital. A branch of Cambodia Post Bank has been closed after a security guard was found to have the highly-contagious variant. The branch is located on National Road 6A in Doeum Kor Village in Chroy Changvar. The case was confirmed on Wednesday morning.

There have been over a hundred cases of the Delta variant detected in the capital, which prompted Tuesday’s meeting between Health Minister, Mam Bunheng, and Phnom Penh Governor Khoung Sreng, to discuss what other measures could be taken to prevent any further spread of the Delta variant in the city.

At the same time, a total of 8 traders and shoppers at Meanchey’s Boeung Tumpon Market have tested positive for Covid-19. At least one of them has the Delta variant. 1,280 people underwent rapid tests on Tuesday morning after a Covid case was discovered. The market remains closed while further testing is carried out, although the surrounding streets have since been reopened to traffic.
